ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore the effect of the comprehensive intervention on overweight and obesity among middle school students at the population level (health education lecture and official account push) and individual level (personalized dietary guidance), so as to provide a reference for preventing and controlling their overweight and obesity.@*Methods@#Three junior high schools and three senior high schools were randomly selected in Guangzhou in 2018 by convenience sampling. Through physical examination, 1 457 overweight and obese students aged from 12 to 18 years old were screened. Intervention was administered through "Student Personalized Dietary Guidance" manual, health tweets on the official accounts, and health education lectures from September 2018 to December 2019. The Chi square test was used to compare the difference in overweight and obesity constituent ratio between the two groups before and after the intervention. And intervention effect was evaluated by analyzing the number needed to treated(NTT).@*Results@#The proportion of overweight before the intervention was 66.71% (972/1 457), and decreased to 59.92% (873/1 457) after the intervention; the proportion of obesity before the intervention was 33.29% (485/1 457), which decreased to 26.63% (388/1 457) after the intervention. Among obese students, the smallest NNT was seen in the girl group aged 12-13 years (NNT=2.6, 95% CI =1.9-4.1), while the largest NNT in the boy group aged 14-18 years (NNT=5.9, 95% CI =4.7-8.1). The NNT of the girls aged 12-13 years was the smallest (NNT=2.7, 95% CI =2.2-3.5), and the NNT of the boys aged 14-18 years was the largest (NNT=7.4, 95% CI =6.0-9.7).@*Conclusion@#Health education at population level (health education lectures, official account push) with individual level (personalized dietary guidance) can effectively intervene overweight and obesity among middle school students in Guangzhou.

ABSTRACT

Objective Tostudytheeffectsoftitanicartificialossiclereplacementincanalwall - downandcanalwall-up tympanoplasty for patients suffering from chronic otitis media .Methods A total of 157 cases (164 ears) un-derwent canal wall-down and canal wall -up tympanoplasty at our hospital from Feburary 2014 to Feburary 2016 were retrospectively analyzed ,in which 50 cases in canal wall down tympanoplasty with titanic ossicle replacement , 49 cases without replacement ,42 cases in canal wall -up tympanoplasty with titanic artificial ossicle replacement , and 23 cases without replacement .The average air bone gaps (ABG) before and 3 months after operations were re-corded and the average reduced ABGs were compared between sub -groups to evaluate the effects of titanic artificial ossicle replacement .Results In the canal wall-down tympanoplasty group ,the mean ABGs of 3 months after oper-ations in the replacement subgroup was 15 .72 ± 11 .18 dB ,the reduced ABGs was 17 .45 ± 5 .23 dB ,and the impro-ving rate for hearing was 71 .54% ,statistically higher than the non -replacement subgroup(P<0 .05) .In the canal wall-up tympanoplasty group ,the mean ABGs of 3 months after operations in the replacement subgroup was 8 .13 ± 5 .37 dB ,the reduced ABGs was 26 .85 ± 11 .03 dB ,the improving rate for hearing was 75 .12% ,statistically higher than non-replacement subgroup(P<0 .05) .Conclusion The replacement of titanic artificial ossicle in both of canal wall-down and canal wall-up tympanoplasty is helpful to improve hearing .

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the characteristics of common deafness genes mutation from 222 sensori-neural hearing loss patients in Guangxi province.Methods A deafness-related gene mutations detection kit was used to detect 15 mutation sites in four deafness-associated genes.A total of 222 hearing impaired patients,who were selected from January 2015 to April 2016,were tested.The samples that could not be diagnosed with DNA mi-croarray were subjected to PCR and sequenced to detect other mutations.Results Among the 222 patients with sen-sorineural deafness,the total mutation rate was 10.36% (23/222),including GJB2 235delC homozygous in 3 cases (1.35%),235delC single heterozygous mutation in 8 cases (3.60%),35delG single heterozygous mutation in 2 cases (0.90%),GJB2 235delC and 109 A>G mutations in 2 cases (0.90%),SLC26A4 1229C>T homozygous in 2 case (0.90%),IVS7-2 A>G heterozygous mutation in 2 cases (0.90%);IVS7-2A>G,IVS11+47T>C and 1548 insC mutations in 2 cases (0.90%);GJB3 538C>T heterozygous mutation in 1 cases (0.45%);Mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene heterogeneous mutations in 1 case (0.45%).One of them carry both two mutations:GJB2 235 del C and SLC26A4 1226 G>A.Conclusion The results indicate that GJB2 and SLC26A4 were the main genes in this study,and in Guangxi province the mutation rate is significantly lower than the national average level.3 new muta-tions (SLC26A4 IVS11+47T ! C,1548insC and GJB2 109A>G)were found.There may be some rare mutations among sites or genes caused deafness in Guangxi.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the characteristics of auditory event-related potentials(AERP) mismatch negativity and P300 in presbycusis patients.Methods Auditory event-related potentials were recorded from 20 presbycusis patients, 20 normal hearing elderly subjects and 20 normal young volunteers(the control group) in the Oddball stimulus paradigm.Mismatch negativity(MMN) was tested under the status of reading.P300 was tested under the status of concentrating.The latencies and amplitudes of 3 groups were compared.Results The latency of MMN in the presbycusis patient group(187.38±29.63ms) was significantly longer than those of the normal hearing older group(160.10±23.21±ms)and the control group(148.22±19.30 ms)(P0.05).The latency of P300 in the presbycusis patient group (369.83±27.09 ms) was significantly longer than those of the normal hearing older group(332.89±25.60 ms)and the control group(318.51±22.32ms)(P0.05).Conclusion The presbycusis patients show some central auditory processing dysfunction and cognitive impairment.MMN and P300 might be used as objective methods for evaluating central auditory processing and cognitive function in presbycusis patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the changes in the central auditory system of presbycusis by applying auditury brainstem response (ABR) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Method:A total of twenty-five elderly subjects with expressed presbycusis, eight elderly subjects with normal hearing and fifteen healthy volunteers as young controls were enrolled in the study. Each participant was examined using ABR and DTI. ABR measures were obtained from all the subjects. The fractional anisotropy (FA) was measured at two brain regions of the auditory pathway-the inferior colliculus (IC) and Heschl's gyrus. Result:Higher FA values were recorded at the left side of the Heschl's gyrus in all three groups (P<0.05). There were no significant differences between the left and right side of the ABR results and FA values of inferior colliculus in the three groups (P>0.05). Aging increased ABR peak latencies, yet did not change the Ⅰ-Ⅴ interpeak latency interval. Comparing with the elderly subjects with normal hearing group, the wave Ⅴ latencies of the presbycusis group were prolonged (P<0.05). Comparing with the healthy control group, the FA values of the IC were reduced in both of the elderly subjects with normal hearing group and the presbycusis group (P<0.05). No statistically differences were observed between the presbycusis group and the elderly subjects with normal hearing group in the FA values of the IC (P>0.05). Significant differences between all groups were found in the FA values of the Heschl's gyrus, with higher values in the elderly subjects with normal hearing group than in the presbycusis group and even higher values in the healthy control group than in the elderly subjects with normal hearing group (P<0.05). Conclusion:The results indicated that the age-related microstructural changes exist in the central part of the auditory system, which are more obvious in the patients with presbycusis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the characteristics and prognosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss through vestibular evoked myogenic potentials.@*METHOD@#Fifty patients with unilateral sudden hearing loss underwent an ear test battery, including audiometry, cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential (cVEMP) and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential(oVEMP). The cVEMP and oVEMP in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss were investigated. Their associations with initial hearing threshold, the type of audiogram, the results of coloric test and hearing recovery were also accessed.@*RESULT@#After one-month treatment, the average threshold declined significantly in affected ears, with normal VEMP rates improved significantly (P < 0.05). Initial hearing threshold and hearing recovery were significantly associated with the results of coloric test and the results of VEMP test (P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Our study indicated that vestibular evoked myogenic potential examination was not only a useful additional diagnostic tool in the neurotological evaluation of patients suffering sudden hearing loss, but also very valuable in the prognosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss.

ABSTRACT

Objective To compare the latency and amplitude of normal subject's auditory event -related po‐tentials(AERP) via P300 evoked by same target stimulation and different intensitve non target stimulation ,and to explore the appropriate intensity of target and nontarget stimulus which evoke typical P300 at the same frequency . Methods A total of 20 normal young volunteers were induced in this study .Each subject received 3 AERP tests , respectively by the same tone burst target stimulus(60 dB nHL ,1 kHz) and different intensity levels for the non target stimulus(50 ,65 ,70 dB nHL ,and 1 kHz) ,and the latency and amplitude of 3 group's P300 were compared . Results In all cases ,P300 was successfully induced .The latencies of 3 group's P300 were 316 .25 ± 21 .16 ms , 320 .83 ± 22 .64 ms ,318 .44 ± 25 .82 ms (P>0 .05) ,respectively and the amplitudes of 3 group's P300 were 5 .02 ± 2 .04 μV ,7 .42 ± 2 .58 μV ,3 .54 ± 2 .23 μV (P<0 .01) ,respectively .The amplitude of the moderate intensity group was greater than the high intensity group and low intensity group ,and the amplitude differences were not statistical‐ly significant between the high and the low intensity groups .Conclusion Different intensity levels of nontarget stim‐ulus do not affect the latency of P300 ,but significantly affect the amplitude .Along with the decreasing of the inten‐sity difference of target and nontarget stimula ,the P300 amplitude raise gradually .A typical P300 is induced at the same frequency when the target stimuli and non target stimuli are 60 dB nHL and 65 dB nHL respectively .

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the relationship between pure-tone average (PTA), the fractional anisotropy (FA) of the auditory pathway, cognitive cortex and auditory cortex in presbycusis.@*METHOD@#Twenty-five elderly subjects with presbycusis were participated in the study. PTA, speech discrimination abilities were evaluated in each subject. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) was applied to access the FA of the IC, the superior frontal gyrus and the Heschl's gyrus. Compare the difference between two sides of the values of FA in the three areas. Bivariate correlation analysis was performed to evaluate the effects of PTA and FA of the inferior colliculus (IC), the superior frontal gyrus and the Heschl's gyrus on speech discrimination abilities.@*RESULT@#There were no significant differences between the left and right side of the inferior colliculus (P > 0.05). Higher FA values were recorded at the left side of the Heschl's gyrus and the superior frontal gyrus (P < 0.05). Both PTA and the FA of the superior frontal gyrus have a negative association with speech discrimination abilities (P < 0.01, P < 0.05), while the FA of the Heschl's gyrus has a positive association with speech discrimination abilities (P < 0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Our findings indicated that the speech discrimination abilities of the elderly is not only related to the peripheral auditory function, but also to the central auditory and cognitive function.

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the mutation characteristics of common deafness gene from 127 non-syndromic hearing loss patients in Guangxi province.@*METHOD@#Deafness-related gene mutations detection kit was used to detect 15 mutation sites in four deafness-associated genes, and a total of 127 hearing impaired patients were tested. The samples that could not be diagnosed with DNA microarray were subjected to PCR and sequenced to detect other mutations.@*RESULT@#Among the 127 patients with non-syndromic deafness, the total mutation rate is 8.66% (11/127), including GJB2 235delC homozygous in 3 cases (2.36%), 235delC single heterozygous mutation in 2 cases (1.57%), GJB2 235delC and 109 A > G mutations in 2 cases (1.57%); SLC26A4 1229C > T homozygous in 1 case (0.79%), IVS7-2A > G, IVS11 + 47T > C and 15448insC mutaion in 2 cases (1.57%); mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene mutations were not detected. The result indicates that GJB2 and SLC26A4 were the main genes in this study, and the mutation rate is significantly lower than the national average level. Three new mutations (SLC26A4 IVS11 + 47T > C,1548insC and GJB2 109A > G) were found. There may be rare mutations among sites or genes associated with deafness in Guangxi.

ABSTRACT

Objective To develop an HPLC method for simultaneous determination of jasminoidin, baicalin, berberine hydro-chloride and emodin in Zhizi Jinhua(ZZJH) Pills. Methods The analysis was performed on a Zorbax Eclipse XDB-C18(4.6 mm×150 mm, 5 μm) with gradient elution by using the mobile phase of acetonitrile-0.2% phosphoric acid solution. The column temperature was maintained at room temperature and the flow rate was 1.0 ml/min. The detection wavelengths were set at 240 nm and 275 nm, respectively. Results The calibration curves were linear within the range of 0.056~0.3360 μg (r=0.9998) for gardenoside, 0.208~0.624μg (r=0.9990) for baicalin, 0.116~0.696μg (r=0.9994) for berberine hydrochloride, and 0.040~0.240 μg (r=0.9993) for emodin, respectively. The recoveries of gardenoside, baicalin, berberine hydrochloride and emodin were 91.18 %(RSD=1.60%)、91.55%(RSD=0.75%)、91.19%(RSD=1.08%) and 92.29%(RSD=1.98%), respectively. Conclusion The method is convenient, fast, sensitive and reproducible, with good precision, specificity and accuracy. So it can be used for simultaneous determination of jasminoidin, baicalin, berberine hydrochloride and emodin in ZZJH Pills.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate diagnosis method and treatment experience of jugulare glomus tumor (JGT) and carotid body tumor (CBT).@*METHOD@#Retrospective analysis. Clinical materials from 4 patients at one genealogy with JGT and CBT were collected. The clinical features, radiological characteristics, surgical methods and prognosis were assessed. The proband suffered from left JGT and left CBT, her younger sister had right CBT as well as her younger female cousin had bilateral CBT and right JGT, her older male cousin had bilateral CBT and left JGT. These JGT and CBT in four patients were resected under general anesthesia after preoperative ultrasound, CT or CT angiography (CTA), MRI, and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) examination as well as preoperative vascular embolization.@*RESULT@#The surgery was uneventful in four cases, and there was no hemiplegia or deaths. All patients were followed up for 2 years to 29 months without recurrence. Six months after operation, the hoarseness also disappeared in the older male cousins but did not improve significantly in younger female cousin. The younger female cousin get right peripheral facial paralysis 1 year after surgery and her temporal bone CT indicated a right JGT.@*CONCLUSION@#It is very important to assess JGT and CBT by Ultrasound, CT, CTA, MRI and DSA. Surgical resection is the first optional treatment for JGT and CBT. Blood loss can be reduced by preop erative vascular embolization. Serious complications could be avoid by operating under microscope, which can supply a clear surgical field and make the surgeon to protect the large blood vessels and nerve.

OBJECTIVE@#Observing the anatomic variation and measuring the bone volume of meatus and nasal cavity by analyzing the expression of paranasal sinus CT. Searching whether these variation and volume data are related to maxillary fungal ball.@*METHOD@#Measuring the double side bone volume of middle meatus,nasal cavity and the rate of middle meatus volume in the same side of nasal cavity respectively in the normal group, the maxillary fungal ball group. Observing the anatomic variation and statistically evaluating the anatomic variation and volume of nasal cavity and nasal meatus.@*RESULT@#In the maxillary fungal ball group, the affected side and the contralateral side volume of middle meatus,nasal cavity and the rate of middle meatus volume in the nasal cavity had no statistical difference (P>0.05); Comparing the middle meatus volume and the rate of middle meatus of the maxillary fungus ball group affected side and normal group,there was statistical difference (P0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Maybe there is a correlation between the enlarged bone middle meatus and the maxillary fungal ball. There is no relationship between the nasal anatomic variation and the maxillary fungal ball.

ABSTRACT

To investigate the etiology.diagnosis and treatment of pulsatile tinnitus. One case with pulsatile tinnitus in our hospital admitted in May 2012 was reported and the relevant literatures were reviewed. The chief complaint when visited was pulsatile tinnitus. This case was treated by surgery. Pulsatile tinnitus was completely subsided without recurrence. Pulsatile tinnitus is an uncommon otologic symptom, which often presents a diagnostic and treatment dilemma to the otolaryngologist. The majority of patients with pulsatile tinnitus have a treatable cause. Failure to establish correct diagnosis may have disastrous consequences, because a potentially life threatening and underlying disorder may be present.

OBJECTIVE@#To study the expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor(IGF-1R) in nasal polyps and its relationship with allergic rhinitis.@*METHOD@#The mRNA and protein expression of IGF-1R in 40 cases (20 cases with allergic rhinitis and 20 cases without) nasal polyps tissue (the CRSWNP group) and 20 middle turbinate tissue samples (the control group) were examined by fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (FQ-PCR) and immunohistochemistry.@*RESULT@#The positive staining rate of IGF-1R protein of nasal polyps tissue is 70.8% and that of control is 12.3%, the expression of IGF-1R mRNA of nasal polyp is 0.748 +/- 0.111,which is significant higher than that of the control group is 0.107 +/- 0.208 (P < 0.01). No significant difference of the expression of IGF-1R mRNA between with and without allergic rhinitis cases and between with and without endoscopy sinus surgery history cases in the CRSWNP group.@*CONCLUSION@#The overexpression of IGF-1R maybe play important roles in the formation of nasal polyp. Hypersensitivity reaction type I mediated by IgE has no contribution to the overexpression of the IGF-1R.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the histopathologic changes of ethmoid bone and its correlation with clinical types of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).@*METHOD@#All ethmoid bones and mucosa from 180 patients with CRS after endoscopic sinus surgery were collected for histopathologic detection with HE staining. The number and the rate of cases were counted according to different histopathologic types. To analyze the correlation between ethmoid bones and clinical types of CRS, mucosal pathologic change, the CT-scanning types of sinusitis, the course of disease as well as operational history.@*RESULT@#The ethmoid bone of all patients had varying degrees of histopathologic changes. There were 5 cases (2.78%) in stage I, 38 cases (21.11%) in stage II, 71 cases (39.44%) in stage III, and 66 cases (36.67%) in stage NIV. The histopathologic changes of ethmoid bone varied in different clinical types. In type I, there were 5 cases (8.33%) in stage I, 33 cases (55.00%) in stage II, 15 cases (25.00%) in stage III, and 7 cases (11.67%) in stage NV. In type I, there were 5 cases (8.33%) in stage II, 37 cases (61.67%) in stage mI, and 18 cases (30.00%) in stage NV. In type III, there were 19 cases (31.67%) in stage III, and 41 cases (68.33%) in stage NV. All histopathologic changes of ethmoid bone were statistically correlated (P < 0.01) with clinical types of CRS, pathologic mucosal change, the CT-scanning types of sinusitis, the course of disease as well as operational history.@*CONCLUSION@#Almost all patients with CRS manifest different-degrees of histopathologic changes, which are correlated with the clinical types of CRS, pathologic mucosal change, the CT-scanning types, the course of disease as well as operational history.

ABSTRACT

NAS preparation, a kind of Chinese herbal medicine found by the Yunnan Eco-agricultural Research Institute, has potential antiviral activity. In this paper, the inhibiting effect of NAS preparation on H9N2 subtype Avian influenza virus (AIV) was investigated in vivo. Chickens infected with H9N2 virus were treated with NAS preparation for 4 days. The virus was then detected by hemoagglutination (HA) test and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The results showed that no H9N2 virus could be detected at the 7th day when the chickens were treated with 0.2g/kg/d or 0.1g/kg/d of NAS preparation. However the virus could be detected in other chickens without NAS preparation treatment. This result suggested that NAS preparation may be a potential drug candidate to control infection of H9N2 subtype AIV in chickens.

ABSTRACT

To study the antiviral effect of Hypericum perforatum L. extract (HPE) on influenza A virus (IAV) (H1N1) in vitro and in vivo. Cytopathic effect (CPE) and neutral red (NR) dye uptake were used to examine the antiviral effect of HPE on Madin Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells which were infected with IAV in vitro. HPE was effective against influenza A virus (IAV) in vitro, with a 50% effective concentration (EC50) of 40 μg/mL. The mean 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) in the MDCK used in these experiments was 1.5 mg/mL. Ribavirin was run in parallel with EC50 values of 5.0 μg/mL; the mean CC50 for ribavirin was 520 μg/mL. Oral gavage administrations of HPE or ribavirin to mice infected with the IAV were highly effective in preventing death, slowing the decline of arterial oxygen saturation, inhibiting lung consolidation and reducing lung virus titers. The minimum effective dose of HPE in these studies was 31.25 mg/kg/day, which was administered twice daily for 5 d beginning 4 h prior to virus exposure. Below a dosage of 2000 mg/kg/day, almost all treated mice survived, which suggests that HPE is of low toxicity. Ribavirin's minimum effective dose was 40 mg/kg/day with the LD50 determined to be 200 mg/kg/day. Delay of the initiation of either HPE or ribavirin therapy, using approximately 1/3 LD50 dose each time, could still be protective as late as 48 h after exposure to the IAV. While both agents appeared to have similar efficacy against IAV infections, HPE was considered to be less toxic and may warrant further evaluation as a possible therapy for influenza.

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To confirm the effect of combination of calcium phosphate cement and small amounts of autoallergic micromorselized bone for reparing bone defect and provide the basis for clinical use.[Method]The animal models of bilateral radius defect were created by surgery on Japan white big ear rabbits.The combination with a ratio of 3 to 1 in one lateral leg was implanted in experimental group,and calcium phosphate cement was used in the control group.The X-rays,bone density,and maximum torsional moment were carried out at different time points,and osteogenesis and degradation of the materials in the two groups were analyzed.[Result]Enhancement of osteogenesis was found in the experimental group,and the materials were enclosed significantly by bony callus at the 8~(th) week,the defects were repaired and the materials were degraded completely at the 16~(th) week.The bone mineral content in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group(P

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To study the combination of calcium phosphate cement(CPC) and morselized bone and their optimum mixing ratio. [Methods]Bilateral nemora of macro-ears rabbits were made into morselized bone.There were two groups:experimental group and control group.In the experimental group,the ratios of morselized bone to CPC were 1 to 1,1 to 2,1 to 3,1 to 4 and 1 to 5.In the control group CPC was used after it was solidified.The maximum compression strength and solidified time of the materials in experimental and control groups were tested.The cell multiplication was evaluated by MTT after mesenchymal stem cells were cultivated.[Results]The cell multiplication in materials mixed with ratios of 1 to 2 and 1 to 3 was better than those in the materials mixed with the other ratios by MTT.It indicated that there was a significant difference(P
